OCTG types (drill pipe, casing and tubing)

Drill pipe

Drill pipe is a type of tubing used in oil and gas wells. It consists of several different components including kelly, bit, drill string and casing. Both casing and tubing are used in the oil drilling process. Casing is placed and surrounds the wellbore before drilling begins. Its purpose is to protect soil layers and groundwater from contamination by drilling mud and/or fracturing fluid. In addition, casing stabilizes the wellbore. Drilling and casing operations are alternated – at predetermined intervals the drill string is removed and the hole is lined and cemented with casing.
