Titanium Grade 9, also known as Ti 3Al/2.5V, is a near alpha, alpha-beta alloy sometimes referred to as "half-6-4." This alloy offers several advantageous properties:
- Higher Tensile Strength:
Provides 20 to 50% higher tensile strength compared to commercially pure titanium at both room and elevated temperatures.
- Cold Working:
More amenable to cold working than Ti 6Al/4V alloy, allowing it to be cold worked up to 75 to 85%, resulting in moderately high strength and good ductility.
- Weldability:
Offers weldability comparable to commercially pure titanium grades.
- Resistance:
Exhibits excellent resistance to torsion and corrosion.
