ATI CP Grade 16 Titanium is an unalloyed titanium grade containing 0.04–0.08% palladium. This Pd-containing alloy extends the application range of commercially pure (CP) titanium in HCl, H3PO4, and H2SO4 solutions. ATI CP Grade 16 Titanium is suitable for applications requiring excellent corrosion resistance in chemical processing or mild reduction of media or storage applications that fluctuate between oxidation and reduction. It can operate continuously at temperatures up to 425 °C (795 °F) or in intermittent operation up to 540 °C (1000 °F). Manufacturing and heat treatment
welding
The weldability of grade 16 Ti-0.05Pd alloy was rated as very good. The alloy is a single-phase material, so the microstructure of the alpha phase is not affected by heat treatment or welding temperature.
annealing
Annealing of this material can be performed by heating to 650-760°C (1202-1400°F) for 6 minutes to 2 hours, followed by air cooling. If stress relief is required, the material must be heated to 480-595°C (896-1103°F) for 15 minutes to 4 hours and then air cooled.
